Al Ahly sack Jose Riveiro after three months in charge

Al Ahly have parted ways with head coach Jose Riveiro after just three months at the helm.

Egyptian Giants split ways with former PSL Coach Ribeiro. The former Orlando Pirates boss oversaw a poor start to the season, with Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Pyramids marking the Red Devils’ first loss of the campaign. After four league matches, Al Ahly sit 12th in the Egyptian Premier League with only one win.

On Sunday, the club confirmed Riveiro’s contract was terminated by mutual consent following a meeting of the Planning Committee, attended by president Mahmoud Al-Khatib and sporting director Mohammed Youssef.

“The club thanks Mr. José Riveiro and his staff for their efforts during this period. However, results did not reflect the work put in, and both parties have agreed to end the contract by mutual consent,” read the official statement.

The committee added that discussions are ongoing to finalize the technical team that will lead Al Ahly into the next phase, as the club continues its pursuit of domestic and continental success.
