Van Rooyen was available as a free agent after leaving Pirates by mutual consent on 21 August.

The right-back joined the Buccaneers from Stellenbosch FC before the 2024-25 season and made more than 50 appearances during his time with the club.

His arrival gives Sundowns another experienced option on the right side of defence following injuries in that position.

Khuliso Mudau is expected to spend at least six months out after rupturing his Achilles, while Zuko Mdunyelwa was forced off during Sundowns’ victory over Milford FC.

Van Rooyen brings extensive domestic experience after spells with Stellenbosch and Pirates and will now begin the next stage of his career with Sundowns.
