Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that Jayden Adams’ number eight jersey will be retired for the 2026/27 season, a tribute to the midfielder following his sudden passing in July.
“In honour of Jayden Adams, the number 8 jersey will be retired for the 2026/27 season,” the club said in a statement. “A fitting tribute to a player whose impact on the Yellow Nation will never be forgotten.”
Sundowns added that the number “will forever carry Jayden Adams’ name, memories, and the place he holds in the Mamelodi Sundowns family.”

Adams, 25, joined Sundowns from Stellenbosch in January 2025 and quickly established himself as a key figure in midfield, also earning senior caps for South Africa. His death sent shockwaves through South African football, with tributes pouring in from teammates, rivals and supporters across the game.
The gesture continues a difficult period for the club and the wider football community as they continue to process his loss, with Sundowns choosing to honour his memory as they begin the new season without him.
