Sundowns bank over R43 million in opening quarter

From continental glory to domestic dominance, Mamelodi Sundowns have already banked over R43 million in prize money so far this season.

Mamelodi Sundowns are not just winning on the pitch this season but they’re also making serious money while doing it.

The Tshwane side have already raked in well over R40 million in prize money alone in what has been a ridiculously profitable opening quarter to their 2026 campaign.

Masandawana kicked off their silverware charge on the global stage by claiming the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup with an impressive victory over Saudi Arabian giants Al Ahli Saudi Club.

That triumph earned the Brazilians a massive R33 million in prize money for a single 90 minute victory. Miguel Cardoso’s side then followed the Intercontinental Cup win with the MTN8 final.

Sundowns’ solid 2-0 victory over Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium not only earned them the trophy, but the massive R10 million cheque that comes with it.

In total, Sundowns have already raked in over R43 million in prize money, and the season has only reached the opening quarter-mark.

There is still plenty to play for with the Carling Knockout Cup, Nedbank Cup, Betway Premiership, and CAF Champions League on the horizon.

On top of that, a CAF Super Cup clash against Algerian outfit USM Alger still awaits next month that comes with a R8 million winners cheque.

If Masandawana keep this momentum going and go all the way across all competitions, they could potentially end the season with a whopping prize purse of over R180 million. Given the way Miguel Cardoso’s men are playing right now, you wouldn’t put it past them.
