Pirates thrash Stellenbosch to secure fourth consecutive MTN8

Orlando Pirates sealed a historic fourth consecutive MTN8 title with a 3-0 extra-time win over Stellenbosch at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

After a goalless 90 minutes, substitute Tshepang Moremi broke the deadlock in the 92nd minute from an Oswin Appollis cross. Tshegofatso Mabasa doubled the lead in the 103rd minute before Moremi struck again in the 111th to complete his brace and secure the trophy.

Stellenbosch tried to rally in the second half of extra-time, but Pirates held firm, shoring up their defence as captain Nkosinathi Sibisi replaced Relebohile Mofokeng to strengthen the backline.

It marked Pirates’ first silverware under new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, with Appollis influential off the bench, providing two assists in extra-time.
