Orlando Pirates have completed a major addition to their midfield, confirming the acquisition of Stellenbosch FC’s Andre de Jong.
The deal, which had first been pursued in September but collapsed due to Stellenbosch’s inability to secure a replacement, was finalised after renewed discussions between the clubs in recent weeks.
His appearance in Stellenbosch’s 2–1 defeat to Polokwane City at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday served as his final outing for the club. De Jong leaves after four seasons in the Western Cape, where he made 114 appearances, scored 19 goals and provided 11 assists.
Beyond individual contributions, he played a central role in two key milestones for Stellenbosch: capturing the 2023 Carling Knockout Cup, the club’s first major trophy— and advancing to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals last season.
His consistent performances, tactical versatility and reliability in advanced midfield roles have made him one of the Premiership’s more dependable creative outlets.
