Orlando Pirates FC confirmed the permanent departure of star midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi on Monday evening.
The talented midfielder joined the Buccaneers in 2023 from SuperSport United and quickly established himself as a key player under Jose Riveiro.
In his maiden campaign at the club, Maswanganyi made 38 appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing an impressive 12 more assists.
‘Tito’ followed his stellar debut season up with another strong run during the 2024/25 campaign, making 42 appearances, netting seven goals, and chipping in with four more assists.
Even with the coaching transition, Maswanganyi remained central to the team’s plans under Abdeslam Ouaddou last season, making 38 appearances across all competitions while contributing 10 goals and five assists.
His absence from last weekend’s MTN8 matchday squad against Sekhukhune United had raised a few eyebrows among supporters, but the mystery has now been solved following the club’s latest announcement.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Bahrain Premier League side Alkhaldiya Sports Club for the transfer of Patrick Maswanganyi,” an official club statement read.
Maswanganyi leaves Mayfair with a glittering CV, having won three MTN8 titles, one Nedbank Cup, one Carling Knockout trophy, and the coveted Betway Premiership title during his time with the Buccaneers.
