Lorch back in Libya as Kaizer Chiefs speculation simmers

Thembinkosi Lorch has returned to Libya for pre-season with Al Ittihad, effectively ending recent transfer rumours linking him to Kaizer Chiefs.

Whispers linking Thembinkosi Lorch with a blockbuster move to Kaizer Chiefs appear to have missed the mark as the attacker prepares for pre-season.

The rumor mill started spinning after Lorch was spotted in the stands at FNB Stadium watching Kaizer Chiefs play Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.

According to the latest update however, the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star has already jetted out of the country to join up with his side Al Ittihad.

Lorch heads back to Libya

Thembinkosi Lorch has returned to Libya and is expected to begin pre-season preparations with Al Ittihad today, according to FARPost.

The talented winger originally joined the Libyan club at the beginning of the year to reunite with coach Rulani Mokwena. While Lorch was widely expected to cut ties following Mokwena’s departure at the end of last season, that appears not to be the case.

During recent days, the 33-year-old was linked with a blockbuster move to Naturena however the same publication claim there were no talks in the first place.

“There is no concrete transfer development involving the Soweto giants. FARPost understands that there have been no talks between Lorch and Chiefs, nor any negotiations between Chiefs and Al Ittihad over a potential transfer,” the publication reported.

With his contract running until mid-2027, any prospective suitor would be forced to buy him out outright. For now, Lorch is set to remain in Libya until the end of the season.
