Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has explained why Flavio Da Silva and Ethan Chislett didn’t feature in Sunday’s MTN8 quarter-final, iDiski Times reports.
Amakhosi suffered a shock 1-0 elimination at the hands of Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium, with Da Silva, who scored in Chiefs’ 3-1 Betway Premiership win over Kruger United the previous week, and attacking midfielder Chislett both notable absentees as the Glamour Boys crashed out of the competition.
Speaking after the match, Da Cruz said the decision came down to squad management, with three games scheduled in the space of six days making it too risky to field both players.
“First thing, Silva got hurt yesterday at the training, so we were left minus one,” he said. “We have three games in six days, so we prefer to be careful with him. The same thing for Chislett also.”
The defeat means Chiefs’ wait for MTN8 success continues, with Golden Arrows advancing to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals.
