Chiefs crush Magesi to extend winning run

Kaizer Chiefs strengthened their grip on third place in the Betway Premiership with a commanding 4-1 win over Magesi FC in Polokwane on Wednesday night.

Amakhosi made it five straight league victories with a controlled display, taking charge before half-time and never losing momentum.

The visitors started brightly, with Mduduzi Shabalala testing the goalkeeper early, while Magesi threatened from a set-piece through Thabang Sibanyoni.

Chiefs broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute. Glody Lilepo’s header found Flavio da Silva, who turned well in the box before placing a composed finish into the far corner.

The lead doubled soon after. Wandile Duba reacted quickest after a collision in the Magesi box from a corner, firing home from close range.

Chiefs remained in control after the break and extended their advantage in the 61st minute. Substitute Reeve Frosler delivered from the right, and Shabalala finished calmly inside the area.

Magesi pulled one back five minutes later when Diteboho Mofokeng rose unmarked to head home from a free kick.

Any hope of a comeback was short-lived. Chiefs sealed the result late on as Khanyisa Mayo headed in Frosler’s cross for his first goal since returning from injury.

The result moves Chiefs further clear in the race for CAF qualification, while Magesi remain bottom of the table.
