Mamelodi Sundowns booked their place in the MTN8 semi-finals after defeating Polokwane City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.
The Brazilians found themselves on the backfoot early on after the visitors found the back of the net in as early as the sixth minute thanks to a Bonginkosi Dlamini strike.
Teboho Mokoena then restored parity in the 21st minute after latching onto an Antonio Van Wyk cross. Ten minutes later, the debutant proved his worth, turning from provider to goalscorer to fire Masandawana into the lead.
City fought back in the 60th minute through Tidimalo Molokwane to level the score at 2-2. Despite chances at either end, neither side were able to find a winner during regulation time.
It took a strike deep into extra time from Cassius Mailula to settle the contest. Marking his official return to the club in style, the forward netted a 113th-minute winner to send Masandawana through to the semi-finals.
The victory means Sundowns join Orlando Pirates in the last four. Tomorrow, Kaizer Chiefs host Golden Arrows while AmaZulu host Sekhukhune United in the remaining last eight fixtures.
