PSL chairman Khoza opens up stadiums for the fans

PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza has confirmed the long-awaited return of fans to 50%-capacity stadiums, starting with next weekend’s Nedbank Cup quarter-final clashes.

South African fans have been unable to attend matches since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic despite stadiums across the globe, and the continent, opening up.

However, the PSL chairman finally announced on Tuesday that fans will be welcomed back to stadiums with a vaccination certificate or a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of the game.

The announcement comes after government eased restrictions as of last week Wednesday on crowds at sports events from 2,000 to 50% of stadium capacity.

Khoza says the regulations will come into effect from next weekend’s Nedbank Cup quarter-finals as the required preparations and categorisation for this weekend’s fixtures have already been finalised.
