Kaizer Chiefs take decision on senior star’s future

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly taken a major decision over the future of Pule Mmodi.

The speedy winger’s contract at Naturena ended last month however the Glamour Boys have triggered their option to extend the 33 year old’s contract by one more year.

Mmodi joined Kaizer Chiefs back in 2023 from Golden Arrows. Despite being at the club for just three years, he’s considered a senior player at Naturena.

Last season, Mmodi made 31 appearances across all competitions for the Glamour Boys. He found the back of the net just twice while assisting one more goal.

Now, according to FAR Post, Mmodi will remain at Naturena for one more season.

Last season, Mmodi was a frequent fixture in the starting lineup, making 31 appearances across all competitions for the Glamour Boys. However, his output in front of goal was limited, finding the back of the net just twice while assisting one more goal.

Despite the dip in form, squad depth is likely a major factor in the club’s decision. Currently, Kaizer Chiefs only have two natural left-wingers in the entire first-team squad: Mmodi and new signing Gastón Sirino.

Sirino himself is 35 years old and facing an uncertain future at Naturena, leaving the club incredibly thin on the left flank.

One player Kaizer Chiefs need to seriously consider is Seluleko Mahlambi from TS Galaxy.

The 21 year old enjoyed a stunning breakout campaign last season. He scored six goals while assisting six more.

More impressive than the numbers though was his ability to beat defenders and spark something out of nothing.

Those dynamic, creative characteristics are exactly what Chiefs’ attack has been severely lacking over recent years.
