SAFA chief executive Lydia Monyepao has confirmed that FIFA are investigating the fielding of midfielder Teboho Mokoena during Bafana Bafana’s World cup qualifier against Lesotho.
The South African Football Association (SAFA) confirmed it has received communication from FIFA regarding an investigation into the Teboho Mokoena case.
Mokoena played in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho in March after collecting two yellow cards, as the midfielder was ineligible to play in that match, which Bafana Bafana won 2–0 in Polokwane.
If found guilty, Hugo Broos’ side could lose three points.
SAFA chief executive Lydia Monyepao said they will respond to FIFA this week.
“We received confirmation from FIFA that they are investigating the matter. We are preparing our defence and will respond to FIFA in the coming days. Attorneys have been appointed to assist us.”
