Banyana Banyana icon Janine van Wyk has taken the next step in her coaching career after being appointed assistant coach at Kristianstads DFF in Sweden for the 2026 season.
Janine van Wyk has embarked on her first overseas coaching role after being appointed assistant coach at Kristianstads DFF in Sweden for the 2026 season, marking a new chapter in the Banyana Banyana legend’s post-playing career.
The Damallsvenskan club, which competes in the top tier of women’s football in Sweden, represents Van Wyk’s first overseas coaching role since her retirement from professional football in 2024.
Van Wyk brought the curtain down on a distinguished playing career last December, setting a new African record for the most international appearances by any footballer.
After retiring, Van Wyk joined the technical team at JVW FC — the Hollywoodbets Super League club she co-founded — first as assistant coach before taking over as head coach.
She holds a UEFA B Licence, obtained through the Scottish FA in November 2022, and has been steadily building her credentials in coaching since hanging up her boots.
Her appointment at Kristianstads marks a significant step in her post-playing career as she enters the European coaching landscape.
