Former Arsenal, Real Madrid and Germany midfielder, Mesut Ozil retired announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday, at the age of 34.

Former Arsenal, Real Madrid and Germany midfielder, Mesut Ozil announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday, at the age of 34. Taking to social media to thank his friends, family and fans for all the support during his career.

The midfield maestro was capped 92 times for Germany, 254 times for the Gunners and 159 times for Los Blancos and won a FIFA World Cup with Germany in 2014.

He was often the centre of controversy, both on and off the field. However, he’s been instrumental to the success of the national team and clubs he’s represented. He has been an assist leader in both the Premier League and La Liga.
