Triple injury worry for Bafana

Bafana Bafana are sweating over the fitness of Aubrey Modiba, Teboho Mokoena and Bathusi Aubaas after all three suffered injury setbacks during the current international window.

Modiba and Mokoena were injured during Bafana’s 2-1 win over Guinea at Orlando Stadium and subsequently missed Wednesday’s 5-0 victory against Eritrea in Cairo.

Aubaas was handed a start against Eritrea but lasted just 12 minutes before being replaced by Brooklyn Poggenpoel after breaking down early in the match.

Coach Pitso Mosimane revealed afterwards that Aubaas was emotional following the setback, but backed the Sundowns midfielder to work his way back into the national team.

The three players are now doubtful for Bafana’s friendly against Egypt at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, with Mosimane particularly short of options in central midfield.

Their fitness will also be closely monitored by Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 10 October.
