South African football clubs are in line for a significant financial boost through FIFA’s Club Benefits Programme, with Bafana Bafana’s qualification for the Round of 32 extending the windfall for every club with a player at the World Cup.
FIFA has confirmed a minimum rate of USD 5,000 (R92,500) per player, per day, drawn from a USD 250 million pool reserved for clubs whose players feature at the final tournament.
The exact final figure will only be confirmed once the tournament ends and the total number of player-days is known – but the numbers below give a sense of the floor and the ceiling.

Orlando Pirates
With eight players in Hugo Broos’s squad, Pirates are guaranteed at least USD 1.36 million (roughly R25.2 million) at the confirmed minimum rate. Some South African outlets have projected the figure could rise closer to R56 million if FIFA’s final rate lands nearer the USD 10,950 (R202,575) per day paid out at Qatar 2022.
Mamelodi Sundowns
Matching Pirates with eight representatives, Sundowns sit in an identical position – guaranteed at least USD 1.36 million (R25.2 million), with projections suggesting a final figure as high as R56 million depending on FIFA’s eventual rate.

Kaizer Chiefs, Siwelele FC and Polokwane City
Each with a single player in the squad, this trio are guaranteed at least USD 170,000 (R3.1 million) apiece, a figure that could climb significantly higher under the same uncertainty.

Foreign clubs with South African players
Seven overseas clubs share the same guaranteed minimum of USD 170,000 (R3.1 million), including Lyle Foster’s Burnley, Mbekezeli Mbokazi’s Chicago Fire, Ime Okon’s Hannover 96, and Sphephelo Sithole’s CD Tondela.
Nobody will know the true final number until the tournament ends. What is certain is that every additional match Bafana Bafana play only adds to the total for South African football.
