Four matches. One win. Zero clean sheets in the last three. Hugo Broos is not happy.
South Africa’s 1-1 draw with Jamaica at Estadio Hidalgo on Saturday extended a worrying run of form heading into their clash against Mexico.
Bafana have now won just once in their last five pre-tournament matches – drawing 0-0 with Panama, losing 1-0 to Panama, drawing 0-0 with Nicaragua and now drawing with a Jamaica side missing several key players.

Goals have been a particular concern. South Africa failed to score against Nicaragua – with Foster missing a penalty – and have managed just two goals across their last four friendlies. Broos was blunt in his assessment after the Jamaica draw.
“The performance was not what I expected. It was a disappointing game. I think it was also a matter of mentality – we have to do more, much more, than what we did this afternoon to have good results at the World Cup,” he said.
Foster’s goal gave Broos one crumb of comfort – the Burnley striker ending his own personal drought in front of goal. But with Mexico, Czech Republic and South Korea awaiting, the Belgian knows his side must improve dramatically and quickly.
“I thought we were close to where I want the team to be, but again it was disappointing. So yes, I have to look at what went wrong.”
