Standout stats ahead of UEFA Champions League matchday 4

The Champions League league phase resumes this week with matchday 4. After three rounds and a record 221 goals, here are the numbers that stand out so far.

Most goals: a six-way tie

Six players share top spot on four goals each: Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, Serhou Guirassy, Ermedin Demirović, Luis Suárez and Nicolò Tresoldi.

Haaland got his four in only two games, after scoring twice against Porto and twice against PSG, and he missed matchday 3.

Kane has scored in 10 Champions League appearances in a row, a run only Cristiano Ronaldo has bettered.

Most assists: Lamine Yamal

Barcelona’s teenager leads the way with four assists, and he has scored twice as well. Next on three each are Ousmane Dembélé, Nico Paz, Kostas Tsimikas and LASK’s Yvan Dibango.

Most goals: PSG

The holders have scored 14 goals, more than any other side. They beat Slovan Bratislava 6-1, won 4-2 at Manchester City and beat Barcelona 4-2. Aston Villa and Liverpool are next on 12 each.

Best defence: Arsenal

Arsenal, Stuttgart and PSV have each conceded only two goals, but Arsenal edge it with two clean sheets, after beating Napoli 1-0 and Lille 3-0. The only goals they’ve let in came in the 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich. Mikel Arteta’s side are unbeaten in 18 Champions League games, a club record.

Worst attack and worst defence: Slovan Bratislava

Slovan have the worst record on both counts. They’ve scored once and conceded 13 in defeats to PSG, Stuttgart and Roma. They’ve also lost all 11 of their games in the group and league phase of the competition.

Viking, the Norwegian side in their first Champions League campaign, went 2-0 up against the German champions at half-time. Kane scored twice and Luis Díaz put Bayern ahead, but Michael Olise was sent off, and Herman Haugen equalised in the final minutes.

Como’s 4-1 win over Manchester United is a close second. According to AFP, the competition debutants handed United their joint-heaviest Champions League defeat in 30 years.

Biggest scoreline: Aston Villa 6-0 Fenerbahçe

Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley each scored twice as Villa recorded the biggest win in their European history. The highest-scoring game so far was Liverpool’s 6-3 win at LASK.
