Harry Kane wins 2026 Ballon d’Or

Harry Kane has won the 2026 Ballon d’Or, becoming the first Englishman to claim the award since Michael Owen in 2001.

Kane, who also won the Gerd Müller Trophy as the season’s top scorer, is just the fifth English winner, after Stanley Matthews, Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Owen.

A record-breaking season

The 33-year-old scored 73 goals and provided eight assists in 65 games for Bayern Munich and England in 2025-26.

For Bayern, he scored 61 goals in 51 games, helping the club win a domestic treble. He finished as the Bundesliga’s top scorer with 36 goals, earning his second European Golden Shoe. He also scored 10 times in the German Cup, including a hat-trick in the final, and added 14 goals as Bayern reached the Champions League semi-finals.

World Cup records

Kane scored 12 goals in 14 games for England, helping them complete a perfect World Cup qualifying campaign.

At the World Cup itself, he scored six goals as England finished third, their best result in 60 years. Along the way he passed Gary Lineker to become England’s all-time top scorer at World Cup finals, and he now has 14 goals at the tournament.

A second Gerd Müller Trophy

His 73 goals made him the clear winner of the Gerd Müller Trophy, which goes to the season’s top scorer for club and country. Kane first won it in 2024, and he is now only the second player to win it twice, after Robert Lewandowski.
