PSL Wrap: PSL newbies shine, Sekhukhune win again

Betway Premiership newcomers Milford and Kruger United both earned vital victories on Saturday afternoon while Papi Zothwane continued his dream start to life at Sekhukhune.

The Betway Premiership returned on Saturday with three key fixtures taking place across South Africa.

While the league’s big guns are away on continental duty, it gave the chasing pack a chance to pick up some vital points.

The biggest winners of the day were PSL newcomers Milford, who climbed into the top four after a hard-fought victory, while Sekhukhune United made it two wins on the bounce.

Kruger defeat Chippa

In the first match of the day, Kruger United earned a dramatic 1-0 win over Chippa United at the Buffalo City Stadium. Sipho Sibiya’s 93rd minute goal was enough to see the hosts walk away with the full three points.

The win moves Kruger up to 12th on the log standings, just one point behind the Chili Boys who are in 9th.

Milford march on

Milford earned another solid victory on Saturday afternoon after defeating Golden Arrows 1-0 at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium.

Siphosethu Ndlabi grabbed his second goal of the season, which proved to be the difference on the day. The win moves Milford up into fourth position on the log standings, one point ahead of Kaizer Chiefs who drop down to fifth.

Sekhukhune earn back-to-back victories

Sekhukhune United earned a dramatic 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants in Saturday’s last fixture of the night at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

A 92nd minute Bethuel Muzeu header proved to be the difference after Oageng Phiri’s first-half goal was cancelled out by a Melusi Buthelezi own goal.

The win means Papi Zothwane’s unbeaten start to life at Babina Noko continues, with his side firmly on the rise on the table and up to sixth.
