Tickets for the highly anticipated Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have sold out just hours after going on sale.
Orlando Pirates welcome arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs to the FNB Stadium on 31 October for this season’s first Soweto Derby.
The massive demand comes as no surprise, with fans scrambling to secure their spots at the Calabash almost as soon as ticket went live.
The Soweto Derby is more than just a football match. It’s a massive cultural event that draws regular supporters, celebrities, and diplomats into the stands. But when the whistle blows, all of that takes a back seat to the only thing that actually matters is the result.
Another epic derby looms
Approximately six hours after announcing that tickets were available, Orlando Pirates confirmed that the match is now sold out.

The Buccaneers have started their title defence in near-perfect fashion, heading into the derby with a impressive six-match winning streak in the league. For their rivals, however, this derby presents the ideal opportunity for coach Fernando Da Cruz to turn things around at Naturena, with Chiefs managing just one win in their last six league outings.
Before they collide in Soweto, both African giants will be in continental action this weekend. Orlando Pirates travel to Botswana to face Namibia’s African Stars in the CAF Champions League, while Kaizer Chiefs take on Zambia’s Red Arrows in the Confederation Cup.
With a capacity crowd guaranteed at the Calabash, all eyes now turn to Nasrec for what promises to be another explosive chapter in South African football’s greatest rivalry.
