Champions League wrap – Real stun Roma, PSG outgun City

Real Madrid came from behind in Rome, Paris Saint-Germain won 4-2 in Manchester, Liverpool hit six past LASK and Bodø/Glimt beat Dortmund in the Champions League.

Bodø/Glimt 1-0 Borussia Dortmund

Bodø/Glimt added Borussia Dortmund to their list of big-name victims at Aspmyra, the smallest ground in the competition, with a deserved win.

The Norwegians were the better side in the first half and went ahead seven minutes after the break, when Fredrik Sjøvold turned in Sondre Auklend’s low cross at the near post.

Dortmund improved after four changes on the hour, and substitute Felix Nmecha forced a fingertip save from Nikita Haikin, but it was their first defeat since the German Super Cup. “We deserved to lose,” admitted coach Niko Kovac.

Roma 3-4 Real Madrid

José Mourinho’s return to Rome ended in a stunning comeback, as Real Madrid scored three times in the last eight minutes to win 4-3.

Marten de Roon fired Roma ahead from distance in the 20th minute, but Kylian Mbappé levelled five minutes later on his 100th Champions League appearance. His 72nd goal in the competition moved him above Raúl into fifth on the all-time list.

Donyell Malen then struck twice in six minutes after the break to put Roma 3-1 up. Corners turned the game, with Carlos Espí and Endrick scoring before former Roma defender Antonio Rüdiger poked home the winner in the 90th minute.

Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1 AEK Athens

Shakhtar celebrated their first Champions League game at their temporary home of Stamford Bridge with a comeback win in front of around 29,000 fans.

Lovro Majer gave AEK the lead in the 28th minute, but Pedrinho levelled from the penalty spot six minutes later. Vinicius Tobias put the Ukrainian champions ahead from a tight angle with about 10 minutes left, and substitute Gleiker Mendoza cut in from the left to make it 3-1.

Shakhtar, who drew with PSV in their opener, now have four points.

LASK 3-6 Liverpool

Bradley Barcola scored his first Liverpool goals in style, completing a hat-trick in a 6-3 win in Linz. Ronald Araujo headed in his first goal for the club from a corner after 22 minutes, and Barcola struck twice before the break.

Jeremie Frimpong made it 4-0 early in the second half, and after Robert Ljubicic pulled one back, Barcola completed his treble in the 66th minute. Lewis Koumas added a sixth before Florian Flecker scored twice late on.

Manchester City 2-4 Paris Saint-Germain

Manchester City’s first home game since their guilty verdict ended in defeat, as the European champions blew them away in the first half.

Désiré Doué beat Gianluigi Donnarumma at his near post in the 13th minute, Ousmane Dembélé headed in two minutes later and Vitinha made it 3-0 before the break.

Erling Haaland headed one back early in the second half, but Maghnes Akliouche’s looping effort restored the three-goal cushion just after the hour.

Haaland scored again in the 75th minute, and Donnarumma, who left PSG last year, saved a late Ferran Torres penalty.
