On this day in 2007, Zimbabwe striker Benjani Mwaruwari scored a hat-trick for Portsmouth in a remarkable 7-4 win over Reading in the highest-scoring match in Premier League history.
The Portsmouth striker struck twice in the first half to put the hosts 2-0 ahead, only for Reading to fight back and draw level shortly after the break.

Hermann Hreidarsson restored Portsmouth’s advantage before David James saved a Nicky Shorey penalty, and Benjani then completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute.
Niko Kranjcar, Sean Davis and Sulley Muntari added Portsmouth’s other goals, while Stephen Hunt, Dave Kitson, Shane Long and Shorey were on target for Reading.
