The South African men’s under-20 side opened the 2026 U20 COSAFA Championship up with a solid 3-0 victory over Lesotho at the ABB 2 Stadium in Mozambique on Saturday afternoon.
Led by head coach Raymond Mdaka, Amajita faced off with Lesotho’s Under-20 side in their opening Group B match of the tournament.
Kaizer Chiefs development star Steven Mendes opening the scoring for South Africa on the stroke of half-time with a brilliant finish.
Mendes then completed his brace in the 60th minute before Tebogo Mlangeni fired home from close range in the 64th minute to make it 3-0 to the defending champions.
Mdaka’s side next face Angola in their second group stage fixture on 21 September before closing the group stages out against Eswatini two days later.
After their opening performance, South Africa will undoubtedly be the favourites once again to lift the U20 COSAFA Cup title.
