Pirates power past La Cure Sylvester in CAFCL qualifier

Orlando Pirates booked their place in the next qualification round of the Champions League after defeating La Cure Sylvester 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Orlando Pirates welcomed Mauritian side La Cure Sylvester to Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon for the second leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie.

It was all to play for in Soweto following a tense, goalless stalemate in the first leg.

Disaster struck early for the hosts when a Sipho Chaine howler gifted the visitors a shock lead inside five minutes.

The Buccaneers hit back instantly, with Kgositsile finding the net just two minutes later to restore parity.

The early shock woke the Soweto giants up from their slumber. With the home crowd finding its voice, Pirates seized control of the contest and began pounding away at the visitors’ defensive wall.

Kamogelo Sebelebele then give his side the lead in the 23rd minute with a well taken strike into the bottom corner.

Any hopes of a famous giant-killing for the Mauritian debutants were firmly put to bed in the 36th minute when Yanela Mbuthuma found the back of the net with his near-post header from a corner.

Both sides pushed for further goals at the Orlando Stadium however it wasn’t to be, with the match ending 3-1 in favour of Orlando Pirates.

Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side walk away with a 3-1 on aggregate victory, successfully booking their place in the next preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

Orlando Pirates will face either Gabon’s Mangasport or Namibia’s African Stars in the next round.
