Orlando Pirates eased to a 3-0 victory over Sekhukhune United on Saturday afternoon to book their place in the MTN8 final.
A quick-fire double by Thapelo Mokgobodi and Ghampani Lungu in the 37th and 39th minute respectively and a late Kamogelo Sebelebele strike was enough to secure the victory for the Bucs.
Carrying a 1-0 lead from the first leg, the Buccaneers wrapped up a comfortable 4-0 aggregate triumph.
Orlando Pirates ease past United
Following a blistering start to the encounter from both teams, it was clear that goals were coming. The Buccaneers almost took the lead in as early as the fifth minute however Oswin Appollis couldn’t beat Toaster Nsabata in goal.
Three minutes later, Yanele Mbuthuma’s heading went just wide of goal. In the 28th minute, Ghampani Lungu almost came close to breaking the deadlock with a header from a corner however Nsabata was again on hand to make the save.
Nsabata was finally beaten in the 37th minute when Mokgobodi expertly finished Mbuthuma’s cut-back beyond Nsabata from the centre of the box.
Two minutes later, Orlando Pirates found their second of the afternoon through Ghampani Lungu who latched onto another Mbuthuma through ball and fired home at the near-post.
The quick-fire double meant Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side went into the half-time break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Sekhukhune United came out from the break desperate to get something from the match however it wasn’t to be. Sipho Chaine refused to be beaten on the day, stopping Babina Noko on multiple occasions.
Sebelebele then put the cherry on top of the cake in the 93rd minute with a simple finish from close range to all but seal the victory.
Orlando Pirates will now wait to see who comes out victorious in tomorrow’s MTN8 semi-final second leg between Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns.
