Owen left Anfield as one of the club’s greatest strikers, having scored 158 goals in 297 appearances across all competitions, including a famous double against Arsenal to win the 2001 FA Cup final.
During his time at Liverpool, he won the FA Cup, the League Cup twice, the UEFA Cup, Super Cup and Ballon d’Or.
At Real Madrid, Owen joined the “Galácticos” era alongside Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and David Beckham, but found first-team opportunities harder to come by, making just 15 starts among his 45 appearances across all competitions.
He still managed 16 goals in that reduced role, including a strike in a 4-2 win over Barcelona. Real Madrid, however, finished the season without a single trophy, ending up runners-up in La Liga and exiting both the Copa del Rey and Champions League early.
Owen returned to England the following summer, joining Newcastle United for £16.8 million.
