Jorge served as his son’s agent and business manager for much of his career, travelling with a young Lionel to Barcelona in 2000 for the trial that ultimately led to his historic contract with the club, famously agreed on a napkin.
The Argentine Football Association said it “mourns with sadness and deep sorrow” and confirmed a minute’s silence will be observed at matches across the country this weekend. Barcelona and Real Madrid were among those to pay tribute.
