The South African Football Association (SAFA) has found the man to lead Bafana Bafana next, following Hugo Broos’ departure after a highly successful five-year spell in charge of the national team.
During his tenure, Broos steered the squad onto a serious upward trajectory, highlighted by winning the 2023 AFCON bronze medal and successfully qualifying Bafana for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With the national team riding a wave of momentum, filling the vacancy required a heavy-hitting appointment, and now SAFA believe it has found the ideal leader for the job.
SAFA confirm Pitso Mosimane as next coach
While an official announcement is looming pending final negotiations, SAFA’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has already signed off behind the scenes.
“The NEC has approved the appointment of coach Pitso to Bafana Bafana, but we still need to tie up some loose ends. We will make a formal announcement of the coach next week,” an official SAFA statement read.
Mosimane a proven winner
When he first took charge of Bafana Bafana after the 2010 World Cup, he was relatively inexperienced. Now, fast forward to the present and South Africa are getting a true coaching legend.
When it comes to managerial pedigree on the African continent, few can match the glittering resume and proven winning DNA that Pitso Mosimane brings back to the national setup.
Mosimane brings a stellar managerial resume built over two decades. He won league titles with Sundowns, Egptian giants Al Ahly as well as Saudi side Al Ahli.
“Jingles” cemented his legacy as a continental heavyweight by securing three CAF Champions League titles after his time at both Sundowns and Al Ahly. In total, he won 20 recognised trophies over the past two decades as a manager.
