Orlando Pirates made a massive statement ahead of the new campaign by securing Norwegian striker Sebastian Pedersen from Sogndal Fotball on a two-year deal, with an option for a further season.
The Buccaneers swept the domestic treble last season, but they know all too well that a hungry Mamelodi Sundowns will be out to dethrone them across every front this term.
One area where the club were visibly short was up top. With Tshegofatso Mabasa gone, Evidence Makgopa, Yanela Mbuthuma, and Boitumelo Radiopane were Abdeslam Ouaddou’s only central striking options to shoulder the load both locally and on the continent.
Pedersen’s arrival however will give the Bucs’ attack a whole new dimension heading into the new campaign.

The Norwegian forward didn’t hide his excitement after completing his switch from Sogndal, describing the opportunity to wear the famous black and white jersey as a major turning point in his career.
“This feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Pedersen told Songdal’s media team. “When a massive club with the history and ambition of Orlando Pirates comes calling, especially with everything they are building right now, it was an easy decision to make.”
So far in his professional career, Pedersen has scored 59 goals and provided nine assists in 166 matches.
While he has yet to feature for the senior Norwegian national team, the 27-year-old striker has represented his country at various youth levels.
