Witbooi’s stock continues to rise, with the Cape Town City teenager now firmly on the radar of clubs across Europe, Africa and the United States, according to his representatives at Roc Nation Sports International, iDiski Times reports.
The 18-year-old, whose father Surprise Ralani turned out for both City and Mamelodi Sundowns during his own playing days, endured a difficult end to last season as his club fell short of promotion to the Betway Premiership via the playoffs.
Nathan Campbell, who heads up global football recruitment at RNSI, revealed that a genuine race for Witbooi’s signature is beginning to take shape.
“There’s a number of clubs that have shown an interest,” he explained, though he stressed that any move would first require a bid substantial enough to convince Cape Town City to sell, given the youngster remains contracted at the club.
Much of the attention stems from Witbooi’s showing at the Under-17 World Cup, an age group tournament Campbell described as intensely scouted, with sides from La Liga, Belgium and England among those tracking his progress.
He also noted that missing out on promotion has, somewhat ironically, sharpened interest in the player, given many feel his talent already warrants top flight football.
Campbell was clear about where the agency sees Witbooi’s future heading.
“Our ambition and goal is still to try and get him to Europe,” he said, adding that a move there remains the clearest route for the teenager to fulfil his potential.
