The South African Football Association has moved to shut down reports that Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has already been offered a contract extension, after SABC Sport reported that a one year extension was on the table to keep him in charge until after next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
In a statement, SAFA said it had “learnt with concern” of the reports and rumours, describing them as “false, unfounded and misleading.” The Association confirmed that Broos remains contracted only until the end of July 2026, and stressed that no contract extension has been issued or approved by its National Executive Committee, with internal governance processes around the technical team still unresolved.
SAFA said the reporting had created “unnecessary speculation” and undermined its decision making structures, adding that it was regrettable that claims had been published citing unnamed sources.

The Association also called on media houses to seek a right of response before publishing similar claims in future, saying a simple request for comment would help verify facts and prevent the spread of unfounded reports.
Despite the denial, SAFA reaffirmed that an official announcement on the Bafana Bafana coaching setup will follow once its internal processes are complete, and urged the public to rely only on official SAFA channels for accurate updates on the matter.
Broos’ future remains unresolved for now, with SAFA yet to confirm whether he will continue in the role beyond this month.
