Bafana Bafana had done it, and in doing so, they made history on the World Cup stage.
South Africa secured a 1–0 win over South Korea national football team to reach the knockout rounds of the FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history.
The match had a nervy start. South Korea began at pace, pressing high and forcing an early scare inside the opening minutes. South Africa absorbed that pressure, then gradually worked their way into the contest. From there, they grew in confidence, moving the ball with purpose and finding space in key areas.

By the middle of the first half, South Africa were creating the clearer chances. The movement in the final third was sharp and direct, with openings that could have produced the opening goal. By half-time, the feeling was clear that South Africa should have led.
That momentum carried into the second half. South Korea controlled more possession, while South Africa remained the greater threat in transition. The breakthrough arrived in the 63rd minute when Thapelo Maseko finished from close range to put Bafana ahead.
From that point, the match became a test of concentration and nerve. South Korea pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but South Africa held their shape, clearing danger and blocking key efforts as pressure built in the final stages.

There were anxious moments as the clock ran down, but South Africa stayed composed through stoppage time and saw the game through to the final whistle. The win secured second place in the group and a place in the Round of 32 for the first time in their World Cup history.
At full time, the reaction reflected pride and belief. Years of near misses and rebuilding came together in one result. South Africa have arrived on the biggest stage in world football, and the story continues.
