The former Bafana midfielder wants one thing from the 2026 FIFA World Cup above all else – for Mofokeng to take it by storm.
“From a selfish point, I hope he does well,” Letsholonyane told Soccer Laduma. “His attitude is right, he’s worked hard and he’s enjoyed his game. I’m hoping he does the same at that level.”
The expectation is understandable. Mofokeng was one of the PSL’s standout performers this season – central to Orlando Pirates’ historic treble and widely regarded as the most exciting talent in South African football. The World Cup is simply the next stage.
But Letsholonyane believes Mofokeng will not be alone. He pointed to the experienced core around him – Teboho Mokoena, Khuliso Mudau and Ronwen Williams – as the foundation that gives the younger players the freedom to express themselves.
He also highlighted one quietly influential figure in the camp.
“You have someone like Mshishi who will guide them whether he starts or not. Players love to be around him. He is a good person and he wants to see others thrive.”
Bafana open against Mexico on Thursday. The stage is set.
