For much of the afternoon, momentum appeared to be shifting towards Tottenham. Spurs had taken the lead away to Wolverhampton Wanderers and looked set to move out of the bottom three, especially after Everton equalised late against West Ham.

However, West Ham responded in the closing stages to reclaim control of the situation, leaving Spurs still chasing survival.

Tottenham, managed by Roberto De Zerbi, secured a 1-0 win at Wolves thanks to a late goal from Palhinha. It was a vital result, but not enough to lift them clear of danger.

With Wolves and Burnley already relegated, the fight to avoid the final drop spot has narrowed to a direct contest between West Ham and Spurs.

Elsewhere, Fulham kept their European hopes alive with a 1-0 win over Aston Villa, courtesy of a goal from Ryan Sessegnon.

The result lifts Fulham into contention for European qualification, with several teams still in the race for sixth place.

At the top of the table, Arsenal have the chance to return to first place when they host Newcastle United, with the title race remaining tight.
