AmaZulu held in Sekhukhune fight back

Sekhukhune United came from behind twice to hold AmaZulu to a 2-2 draw in the Betway Premiership at Princess Magogo Stadium on Monday.

AmaZulu started on the front foot and created early chances through Hendrick Ekstein and Athini Maqokolo, but were unable to convert in the opening stages.

The breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when Thapelo Matlhoko headed home from Maqokolo’s cross to give the hosts the lead.

Sekhukhune responded late in the first half and levelled in the 42nd minute. Olerato Mandi finished from close range after a well-worked move, with Keletso Makgalwa involved in the build-up.

AmaZulu regained the lead shortly after the restart. In the 51st minute, Nkosikhona Radebe reacted quickest to a rebound after Ekstein’s effort was saved, making it 2-1.

Sekhukhune pushed forward in search of another equaliser and began to control possession. AmaZulu goalkeeper Olwethu Mzimela produced key saves, including a close-range stop to deny Bright Ndlovu.

The visitors made changes in the final stages and found a way back into the match in the 77th minute. Ndlovu collected a pass on the edge of the area and finished low past Mzimela to bring the score to 2-2.

Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing minutes but were unable to create clear chances.

The result leaves AmaZulu outside the top three after missing the chance to climb the table, while Sekhukhune remain in contention for a top-four finish.
