Chiefs climb to third with Orbit win

Kaizer Chiefs came from behind to defeat Orbit College 3-1 and extend their winning run to three matches in the Betway Premiership on Monday.

Chiefs made two changes from their previous outing, with Given Msimango and Thabiso Monyane coming into the starting line-up. Orbit also reshuffled, handing Thabang Mahlangu a debut.

The hosts started with intent and nearly took the lead inside six minutes when Mahlangu turned sharply on the edge of the area and struck the post. Chiefs struggled to settle early on and fell behind in the 22nd minute when Mbulelo Wagaba headed home a free-kick past Bruce Bvuma.

Orbit remained organised after taking the lead, limiting clear chances as Chiefs pushed forward in search of an equaliser. The breakthrough came just before half-time when Wandile Duba finished from close range after connecting with Bradley Cross’ delivery.

Chiefs returned after the break with more control but still faced resistance from Orbit, who threatened on the counter. Wagaba came close again early in the second half, firing across goal as the hosts looked to regain the lead.

The visitors made changes to shift momentum, introducing Flavio Silva and Siphesihle Ndlovu. The substitutions proved effective as Chiefs took the lead in the 67th minute. Mduduzi Shabalala finished from Monyane’s cutback after Duba’s movement created space in the area.

Chiefs then secured the result in the 78th minute. Ndlovu latched onto a flick from Silva and finished past Cyril Chibwe to make it 3-1.

Orbit pushed forward late on but were unable to break through as Chiefs managed the closing stages.

The result lifts Chiefs into third place on the table and strengthens their push for continental qualification, while Orbit remain in the lower half and continue to search for consistency.
