Liverpool’s £60m signing sidelined for season

Liverpool-bound defender Jeremy Jacquet will undergo shoulder surgery after suffering an injury in Rennes’ Ligue 1 clash with Lens in early February, according to The Athletic.

The 20-year-old centre-back is expected to miss the remainder of the French season. However, provided the operation and rehabilitation proceed without complications, Liverpool anticipate he will be fit in time for the start of pre-season in early July.

Rennes confirmed that Jacquet will go under the knife in the coming days following a series of medical assessments. Liverpool’s medical department remains in close contact with their counterparts in France as the player begins his recovery.

Shoulder injuries typically require between eight and 12 weeks of rehabilitation, though the exact timeline will depend on the success of the procedure.

Jacquet is due to complete his move to Anfield on July 1 after Liverpool agreed a deal worth £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons in January. The France youth international has signed a contract running until 2031, with the option of an additional year.

Liverpool view Jacquet as part of their long-term planning, particularly in central defence. Head coach Arne Slot recently acknowledged the club are preparing for the future beyond 34-year-old captain Virgil van Dijk.

Jacquet, a Rennes academy graduate, had started every Ligue 1 match when available this season, making 19 top-flight appearances before injury curtailed his campaign.
