Liverpool have secured the signature of a highly rated French centre-back for a mouth-watering £60m.
The 20-year-old defender, Jeremy Jacquet, has agreed to join the Reds, with a medical scheduled for Monday, before returning to Rennes on loan until the end of the 2025–26 season.
Chelsea were believed to be in the driving seat, but their preference for a permanent January move was not favourable to Rennes. The player also made it clear that he preferred a move to Anfield.
Jacquet becomes Rennes’ record sale, with a reported £55m upfront fee and £5m in add-ons, surpassing their previous record sale of Jeremy Doku to Manchester City for £45m.

Highly rated in France and across European football, Liverpool moved quickly to secure the French Under-21 international before more clubs entered the race later in the season.
Jacquet joins a growing list of notable academy graduates from Rennes, including Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Eduardo Camavinga, and Ismaïla Sarr.
With Ibrahima Konaté’s future uncertain following stalled contract talks and fewer than four months remaining on his current deal, Jacquet is expected to be prepared for first-team minutes upon his arrival.
