Chiefs under pressure to keep pace with Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs wrap up their 2025 league programme with a demanding visit to Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, facing a TS Galaxy side that has turned this fixture into one of the PSL’s most unpredictable matchups.

The trip completes a taxing seven-day run that has taken Chiefs from Limpopo to the Eastern Cape and now Mpumalanga, with Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef still searching for consistency heading into the AFCON break.

Their midweek 0–0 draw with Chippa United kept Amakhosi fifth on 23 points, five behind leaders Orlando Pirates but with two games in hand. Victory on Sunday could lift them into the top three and keep pressure on the title contenders. Chiefs’ defensive record remains their strongest asset, only six goals conceded all season, making them one of the league’s most stable sides despite a three-match winless run.

TS Galaxy sit eighth on 20 points from 13 matches and remain difficult to read. Their last outing ended in a 0–0 draw at Polokwane, but they recently beat Golden Arrows 2–1 at home, underlining their threat in Mbombela. Galaxy have also been more productive in front of goal than Chiefs this season, scoring 18 times compared to Amakhosi’s 13. Former Chiefs fullback Puso Dithejane has become one of their biggest attacking sparks and will have added motivation against his old club.

The historical pattern between these sides points to another close contest. Across their last 12 meetings, Galaxy have won three, Chiefs just one, and eight have ended in draws, most of them low-scoring. With both teams favouring structured, disciplined play, margins are likely to be fine once again.

Betway’s main match odds reflect this balance, with Galaxy 3.15, Chiefs 2.30, and the draw also at 3.15, underlining how little separates them on form and history.

Chiefs will look to Flavio Silva, Mfundo Vilakazi and Mduduzi Shabalala to provide the attacking spark, while Galaxy count on Dithejane’s pace and Seluleko Mahlambi’s movement to unsettle one of the PSL’s best defences.

A tight, tactical and fiercely contested clash is expected, an appropriate end-of-year test for both sides before the league pauses for AFCON 2025.
