McTominay scoops Serie A’s Player of the Season Award

Scott McTominay’s emergence as one of Serie A’s most influential performers was formally acknowledged in Milan, where the Napoli midfielder was named the league’s Player of the Season.

The 28-year-old became the first Scottish footballer to receive the honour, capping a debut season defined by decisive goals, tactical maturity and a central role in Napoli’s Scudetto success.

His selection places him alongside previous winners such as Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo, underlining the scale of his impact since arriving in Naples.

The award recognises his contribution to Napoli’s 2024–25 title-winning campaign, during which he registered 12 goals and six assists from midfield. His performances were a key component of Antonio Conte’s system, and his consistency earned him a place in the league’s official Team of the Season. McTominay is the first Scottish international to receive the accolade.

His form has continued into the current campaign, where Napoli sit level with Milan at the top of the table. The midfielder has become an integral figure in Conte’s squad, and his development into a leading European performer has drawn attention across the continent.

His trajectory has also impressed former Scotland striker Paul Dickov, who outlined the resilience McTominay demonstrated following his departure from Manchester United.

Dickov noted that the transition to Napoli required a willingness to embrace uncertainty while adapting to a new environment, emphasising how the midfielder’s determination and on-field performances have redefined perceptions around his ceiling as a player.
