Gravenberch named PL Player of Matchweek 5

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has been voted Premier League Player of the Matchweek after his role in Liverpool’s 2-1 Merseyside derby victory over Everton.

The Merseyside derby proved to be a pivotal match for Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch to prove himself as a formidable player for the Red’s.

After earning himself the PFA Young Player of the Year award and a spot in the PFA Team of the Year last season following Liverpool’s league triumph, Ryan’s performance against Everton was just him picking up from where he left off last season.

Just five matches into the new campaign and the midfielder isn’t showing any signs of falling off after a brilliant showing in the Merseyside derby against Everton last weekend to earn himself Player of the Matchweek.

The 23-year-old midfielder scored the opening goal from a Mohamed Salah cross and later assisted Hugo Ekitike for Liverpool’s second. He became the youngest player to both score and assist in a Premier League Merseyside derby.

Gravenberch collected 31% of the vote in a fan poll. Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes finished second with 20%. Anton Stach (16%), Jeremy Doku (11%), Nordi Mukiele (11%), Alex Iwobi (6%), Martin Dubravka (4%) and Tyrick Mitchell (1%) were the other nominees.
