Sekhukhune obliterate Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium

Bradley Grobler became the first player to score against Kaizer Chiefs this season as Sekhukhune United won 3-1 in the Betway Premiership at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

Grobler has now scored 123 career goals, with 12 against Chiefs. He scored twice and set up Thabang Monare for the third goal on his 36th birthday.

Sekhukhune moved to the top of the table with 16 points from six matches, two ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns and three clear of Chiefs. Chiefs lost their first league match of the 2025/26 season and conceded their first goals.

Chiefs made four changes from their last match. Aden McCarthy returned from injury, and new signing Flávio Silva started after scoring on his debut. Mduduzi Shabalala and Thabiso Monyane began on the bench, replaced by Gastón Sirino and Reeve Frosler. Sekhukhune made one change in goal, with Toaster Nsabata starting ahead of Manuel Sapunga.

The opening goal came in the 5th minute when Tsepo Matsimbi set up Grobler, who scored at the far post. Chiefs equalised in the 13th minute when Glody Lilepo’s cross was spilled by Nsabata, allowing Silva to score.

In the 25th minute, Keletso Makgalwa set up Vuyo Letlapa, whose shot went over. Silva later tried to set up Pule Mmodi, but Nsabata intercepted. Chiefs missed further chances, including a long-range effort from Lilepo. The first half ended 1-1.

Grobler scored again in the 50th minute after Chiefs failed to clear their box. Six minutes later, Monare made it 3-1 after finishing a counter-attack set up by Grobler.

Chiefs struggled to create clear chances in the final stages. George Matlou’s long-range attempt in the 82nd minute went straight to Nsabata.

Sekhukhune next face Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. Chiefs will begin their CAF Confederation Cup campaign the same day against Kabuscorp in Luanda.
