McCarthy named Kenya’s Coach of the Month for August

Benni McCarthy has been named Kenya’s Coach of the Month for August after guiding the Harambee Stars to the quarterfinals of the 2024 CHAN.

The South African legend and former Manchester United assistant coach has been named Kenya’s Coach of the Month for August after guiding the Harambee Stars to the quarterfinals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). became the third foreign coach to claim the award in 2025, with the accolade voted for by the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya.

McCarthy, appointed head coach of the national team in early 2025, has made an immediate impact. His side opened the tournament with a notable win over Morocco and advanced from the group stage before losing on penalties to Madagascar.

The 47-year-old, a UEFA Champions League winner with Porto, previously managed Cape Town City and AmaZulu and worked as a first-team coach at Manchester United, where he helped develop forward Marcus Rashford.

Reflecting on CHAN, McCarthy said his players showed promise but needed to be more clinical in front of goal.
