Mamelodi Sundowns extended their flawless start to the 2025/26 season with a professional 2–0 victory over Premiership newcomers Magesi FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The first half of the encounter was rather quiet in terms of action up front with the second 45 minutes shaping up as Jayden Adams struck in the 73rd minute, setting the tone, before Peter Shalulile sealed the result in the 87th minute after a neat exchange with Tashreeq Matthews.
The night, however, belonged to Peter Shalulile, who made history by scoring his 129th goal in the PSL, equalling Siyabonga Nomvethe’s long-standing record as the league’s all-time top scorer. His landmark strike highlighted once again why the Namibian striker remains such a vital figure in Sundowns’ era of dominance.

Statistically, Sundowns were in control throughout. They enjoyed 69% possession, completed 87% of their passes (405/468), and generated 1.03 xG to Magesi’s 0.91. While Magesi fired off 11 shots (two hitting the woodwork), they managed just one on target, compared to Sundowns’ three. Defensively, Miguel Cardoso’s men were solid, winning 81% of their tackles (13/16) and clearing their lines 29 times to keep the clean sheet intact.
Magesi can take pride in their effort and the chances they created, but Sundowns’ quality, composure, and Shalulile’s record-equalling goal proved the difference. For the champions, it’s another strong statement of intent — and for Shalulile, a historic night etched into PSL folklore.
