Former Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town striker Tendai Ndoro has died at the age of 40, the Soweto giants announced on Monday.
The former Buccaneer’s striker and Zimbabwe international Tendai Ndoro passed away in his home in Johannesburg.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former striker, Tendai Ndoro (2015–2017),” Pirates announced.
“The club extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Ndoro first rose to prominence during his time at Chicken Inn FC in Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League, where he played between 2011 and 2013. Before that, he had a short stint in Botswana with Nico United.
His breakthrough performances in Zimbabwe quickly caught the eye of scouts across the region, and by 2013 he had secured a move to South Africa, joining Mpumalanga Black Aces.
His reputation as a natural goal scorer grew steadily, and in 2015 he earned a high-profile switch to Soweto giants Orlando Pirates, where he remained until 2017. Known affectionately as “Fire,” Ndoro became a fan favorite, particularly during the 2016/17 season when he finished as runner-up for the PSL Golden Boot, netting 12 goals.
