Dele Alli told to leave Como

Dele Alli is looking for a new club after being told he is not part of Como’s future plans. The 29-year-old midfielder was left out of the Serie A side’s pre-season trip to Marbella and is training separately at the club’s Mozzate base with others deemed surplus to requirements.

Alli joined Como in January on an 18-month contract after leaving Everton. He made just one appearance for the Italian side – a 10-minute cameo against AC Milan in March before being sent off for a foul on Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The yellow card was upgraded to red following a VAR review. It marked his first competitive appearance in more than two years.

Despite suggestions in the Italian press that he may retire, sources close to the player say he remains determined to continue his career.

Alli’s struggles in recent years have been well documented. After a loan spell at Besiktas in 2022–23 was hampered by injury, he checked into a rehab facility in the United States in 2023 to deal with an addiction to sleeping pills. That same year, he gave a powerful interview on The Overlap, revealing childhood abuse and trauma that affected his mental health and career.

Once a star at Tottenham, where he scored 67 goals in 269 appearances and won 37 England caps, Alli is now seeking a fresh start. His contract with Everton expired in July, but he continued training with the club while recovering from a groin injury.
