United bid £70m for Mbeumo

Manchester United have made a third offer for Brentford talisman Bryan Mbeumo, with the £70-million bid including £65-million up front and a further £5-million in add-ons.

Brentford previously rejected United’s earlier bids of £55-million and £60-million but are now considering the latest proposal for the 25-year-old, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season. According to The Times, the west London club are understood to want a large portion of any fee paid immediately.

Mbeumo has registered 70 goals and 51 assists across 242 appearances for Brentford. Although former Bees manager Thomas Frank was reportedly interested in reuniting with the forward at Tottenham Hotspur, United appear to have moved ahead in the race.

New head coach Ruben Amorim has made strengthening United’s attack a priority this summer after finishing 15th in the league with just 44 goals scored. His only signing so far is Matheus Cunha, who joined from Wolves for £62.5-million.

Last season’s attacking output was led by Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, who both scored eight league goals. Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, brought in for major fees, delivered a combined seven.

United are also looking to reshape their squad by moving on players like Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, and Antony. Garnacho is wanted by Aston Villa, while Sancho has interest from Juventus and Fenerbahce.

The Times also reports United must soon decide on their goalkeeper situation, with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez open to a move — but only if André Onana departs.
